Journeys is possible due to the support over a number of years from our major funders. Generous grants allow us to deliver our high quality programme at no cost to participants. We are able to train and upskill ordinary local women who volunteer, run a targeted youth leadership programme, and meet all our programme delivery costs.
Local businesses have backed us from the beginning, and each year support is steadily increasing as word gets spreads about the impact that Journeys is having on our community.
From our very beginnings, Central Otago REAP backed us and were our umbrella organisation before we became a charitable trust, and Checkett’s McKay Law helped us with this process at no charge. Bike it Now provide loan bikes, trailers and van use at no charge. Commercial and Rural Insurance has sponsored our insurance year after year, and Shockcraft have sponsored our fancy big bike racks and help us out with suspension servicing.
We also have a range of local businesses who are directly sponsoring participants or contributing to our leadership programme – Fulton Hogan, Dodd Zone Accounting and ICL chartered accountants are all valued supporters.
Dunstan Automotive came on board to help out with thermoses and hot drinks, and quickly grew their support to provide an enormous garage for our new operating BaseCamp!
Support from some key national organisations in the form of donations, gear, advice and mentoring was instrumental to take Journeys from a good grassroots idea to an exciting organisation that reaches hundreds of Central Otago girls and women. Their ongoing support gives us the ability to be adaptable and the confidence to keep meeting the needs of young women in our community.
Sport NZ got us up and running with their Innovations Fund in 2019, and soon after that Macpac got on board with $5000 of gear to start up our loan library. Mountain Adventure give us amazing deals on gear to keep this topped up, and to support our instructors and leaders especially with La Sportiva footwear. Outfitters also help us out with RAB clothing which is some of the very best quality outdoor gear available.
