Our Bike Glendhu Away Day, and Navigation Adventure Weekend
Journeys takes the chance to offer additional adventures for our teen girls, and in autumn 2026 we had fun adventuring both On Bikes and On Foot with two great groups of Dunstan High girls.
In late March, 11 girls explored Bike Glendhu for a day, which started in the pouring rain. Fortunately the trails remained in ride-able condition and the sun came out. We were joined by a fabulous BG instructor, which allowed us to cater to a range of biking abilities.
A couple of weekends later, we made the most of Highland Events and Central Otago orienteering organising events in similar locations. A crew of seven year 9s completed the Saturday rogaine (with one team winning the junior girls category!), and COO’s orienteering event on the Sunday. Staying together in a holiday house in Omakau, sharing kai and having a night playground mission (complete with an aurora) was the highlight for most.

Our first ever bike packing adventure
In February 2023, seven Year 10 girls and two instructors went on an overnight bike packing trip from Moke Lake to Sefferstown Hut, on Ben Lomond Station. The girls met on Saturday morning in Alexandra with the first task to plan then shop for our weekend’s food at New World, before we headed over to Moke Lake, just out of Queenstown. The team worked together to fit the bike racks and all overnight gear and food onto their bikes, then we headed north on the farm road to Sefferstown Hut. After an explore up ‘McConnochies Creek’ and a swim in Moke Creek, we reached the hut, set up tents and enjoyed dinner together. A walk after dinner had us reach a high point just as the sun set, with spectacular views to the mountains to the north and Ben Lomond to the south. Day two had pack down, ride out to Moke and a swim in the Lake to finish off.
